Inclement Weather Policy
Since Ferrum College is primarily a residential college, classes are rarely
postponed due to weather conditions. Students, faculty and staff should use good
judgment in determining the feasibility of attending classes or reporting to
work when weather conditions create safety concerns, If weather conditions
prevent class or work attendance, students are expected to notify their
professors and employees are to notify their supervisors of their particular
weather-related situation. Students assume responsibility for course work
covered during the missed class period and employees for missed work. Students
are to initiate steps for making up missed work.
Information relevant to class cancellations or delays due to inclement weather
will be publicized in several ways to members of the campus community,
including:
- Emergency, weather and safety alerts will be sent via text messages for faculty, staff and students who sign up for the Rave alert system.
- Local television and radio stations will be notified when there is a change in the normal hours of operation for the College.
- Campus wide email will be sent to all faculty, staff and students via their Ferrum College email address.
- Information will be posted on the College's website, www.ferrum.edu.
- Updated information will be posted on Ferrum's Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
