Chemical Spills

If using chemicals, know proper spill clean-up procedures or know who, in that area, is trained and responsible for spill clean-up.

FUMES
Fumes from spilled chemicals can, in confined areas, create an explosive/flammable atmosphere or an atmosphere that cannot support life. If there is any possible danger of this, EVACUATE THE AREA AT ONCE.

In the case of fire, call 911 immediately. All chemical spills and fires, no matter how small, should be promptly reported to the Physical Plant (540) 365-4250. If after normal business hours, call College Police at (540) 365-4444

SKIN
If toxic chemicals come in contact with your skin, immediately flush the affected area with clear water and, if necessary, call 911.
