Emergency Alert System - IMPORTANT
Ferrum College will alert you to an emergency/imminent threat in the following ways:
-
Outside SIREN (a slow wailing one) will be activated
--> Seek shelter and remain there until additional information is received. Do not assume the end of the siren wail indicates an "all clear" condition! - Ferrum College utilizes the Rave alert system to communicate accurately and effectively to our campus community. Rave allows us to instantly send notifications through multiple channels including e-mail, text, Twitter and Facebook. In our continuing effort to ensure our notifications are received the most effective way, the College is utilizing an opt-out system, which will allow us to send text message alerts automatically to all students, faculty and staff who have a current cell phone number in our database.
- Campus wide e-mail will be sent to faculty, staff, and students via their Ferrum College email address.
- Information will be posted on the College's website.
- Ferrum College's Rave. To be used in the event that the college's website is down.
- Voice message will be placed on (540) 365-5555 of the campus Information Line.
- Verbal instructions will be passed along, either in person or by phone tree, by Area Coordinators (AC's), Resident Assistants (RA's), and others as instructed.
If you have information relevant to this threat, immediately call 911 to report it.
Once the threat has been contained, an "all clear" will be communicated by the same methods as listed above except the siren tone will NOT be sounded to indicate "all clear".
Siren and other emergency plan testing will take place on a regular basis. We will announce any testing in advance of the event.
